Foster Critical Minds, Fuel Persuasive Discourse: Enter The Debate Arena!
When: May 18th & May 26th 2024

Section 2 ICNA Convention Semi-Final May 26th, 2024
Registration Deadline May 11th.
ICNA Tournament:
The tournament is a hybrid event with virtual preliminaries on Saturday, May 18th, and the semifinals and finals are in person at the ICNA-MAS Convention on Sunday, May 26th in Baltimore, Maryland.
The preliminary round consists of four virtual parliamentary-style debates on Saturday, May 18th from 10 am EST to 4 pm EST. These debates will consist of 2 pre-assigned topics (given) and two topics will be provided on the spot (impromptu). Virtual round winners will also be recognized and awarded regardless of in-person events.
The top four performing middle and high school teams will be invited to compete in the semifinals and finals at the ICNA-MAS Convention in person on Sunday, May 26th in Baltimore, Maryland. Topics for the semis and finals will be given on the spot (impromptu).

- Arsalan Siddiqui is a bioengineering graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park, and is an MPowering the State Student Entrepreneurship Fellow at the Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices, and a Science Diplomacy and Foreign Policy Fellow with the University of Maryland and U.S. State Department.
He also serves as the Student President of the University System of Maryland, advocating for over 170,000 students attending one of Maryland’s 15 public higher education and educational centers, including the University of Maryland, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and others. Arsalan has also been successfully working on developing and patenting several medical devices in coordination with Children’s National Hospital, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

- This Workshop will introduce the information campaign competition, go over the judging rubric, and provide detailed guidelines on how to conduct the campaign and present it on competition day. After the workshop, participants should be ready to begin conducting their campaign and prepare their presentations.
- Taught by: Amirah Ahmad, a former EPC participant, holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Maryland and a B.A. in Islamic Jurisprudence from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Her goal is to empower Muslim youth to become community leaders, thinkers, and reformers.
